Ahhhh.... I NEED a bridge yeah! How much is the bridge? WRT54G is the way to be Thinking of getting another WRT54G...and runnign it in bridge mode Pat says it was $120 yeah, but if you're just mac filtering it's not the network usage that kills you it's the fact that you're broadcasting all your network traffic in plain view of anyone within 500 feet yea! still looking for a good answer for that file sharing thing! :) allan: thanks allan; the bridge? Yeah.....but a WRT54G can do the same thing with alternate firmware i've never changed the firmware most people still use plain text pop3 etc i stick to the "if it works, don't change it" policy samba comes to mind Justin: WRT54G firmware is Linux, so there are MANY other firmware options that add lots of features Was using Ethereal at work to track down an infected Windows box... saw way too many passwords yeah Umask is for everything though.... as I'm told. but i use the linksys one that came with it works fine :) Justion: I did that....til the Linksys firmware refused to pass VPN traffic....then Iloaded WiFi box i don't have a vpn :( accees control? Tell me! back finally lol ACL... does this require SeLinux fully set up? Justin: I usually don't either, but my wife has to do work from home with a VPN ah No Reiser support for Access Control? Crap. Justin: Best to keep the wife happy :-D http://www.thelinuxlink.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=183 grin ooh Thanks for the link i gtg bye *** Justin has left channel #techshow because (Konversation terminated!) I will be stuck with samba, everyone else uses windows Oh...Tiger is adding ACL's It sucks that it doesn't work on reiserfs yet. Since that's what all my drives are. :( rignes: Agreed. Isn't reiserfs better for small files? Something Linux has alot of? :D Yup, that's what I read about reiserfs. Now, what about the forthcoming reiser4? Maybe that will support it? rignes: one would hope It's worth putting at least your /usr and /etc in a ReiserFS partition. acl's aren't worth giving up reiser (Speed wise) Nope. I don't have a compelling reason to use ACL's for myself. I don't worry so much about my filesystems with reiser because it recovers FAST! Thanks for the advice! BUT, if I ever get to talk those people I work with into letting me run some linux then it'll be good to know. SMB - you can also specificy the uid as well, can't you? Mark_S: Unless you really need ACL's.....I always say if you run into a issue where you think you need ACL's, but you can rework the groups a bit sometimes and work around needing them.....if you can't, well....then you need ACL's. Yeah, cisco routers use ACL's and they are really handy If you are in a mixed environment, you can't mount a nfs share with windows without spending a small dortune *** Signoff: Gajon (Quit: [BX] Life is like BitchX. Ya never know what yer gunna git.) But samba will cover for most of the losers I have to take care of. linc: I bought a NICE system about 2 years ago....I have not used it in over a year regularly because when my wife is not working she's freecycling, chatting and what not. me first rofl No you better get a gas mask with the way he farts Yeah.....setup some long distance wifi WiMax it to the UK and you can count me in dig out the pringles can!
